Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
