Around twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up lacking electricity on the start of the week after intense storm systems impacted the area, bringing wind gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Frozen Precipitation and Broad Destruction

Residents witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology verified that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the widespread outages.

Victoria's Storm Challenges

Meanwhile, nearly one thousand energy customers in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams responded to over five hundred calls for help across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and water accumulation.

• Wyndham area - 179 help reports

At one point on the previous day, in excess of twenty-eight thousand energy customers in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were expected to linger along much of eastern Queensland this coming days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

Tuesday was forecast to be the wettest day, with continued storm activity predicted across different parts of both areas.

Medical Alert

Health officials cautioned that there was an increased chance of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This alert comes after previous incidents where similar conditions led to major medical consequences in the region.
